I’ve never been to India before, but it’s pictures like these and others from photographer Poras Chaudhary that make me want to hop on a plane right this second and explore. While browsing fashion blog Trend.Land I immediately took notice to these photos because of the vibrant colors (I’m a WHORE for bright colors) and the life that slaps you right in the face. Many of the pictures are taken at Holi, also referred too as Festival of Colors, which takes place during the spring in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. During the holiday participants are required to wear white and then proceed to throw themselves into colored powder which not only dye the clothing they wear, but also just about anything it touches. Be sure to check out Poras Chaudhary’s Flickr for more amazing moments from India!

Dee & Ricky

Awhile ago I heard about the Nylon Magazine x Nike Sportswear collaboration and it made me choke on the coffee I was drinking with sheer excitement. Nike is in of my favorite brands and Nylon happens to be one of my favorite magazines so I knew a collaboration with the two of these power houses was sure to be nothing short of perfection.  I started seeing the kicks on super awesome people like Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes during fashion week and I knew I had to figure out a way to get my grubby little paws on them. In the May issue of Nylon (out on stands now) the magazine has a full spread of the kicks on some of the coolest people like Peaches Geldof and Lego master’s Dee & Ricky (above). The shoes drop June 1st in select Nike retailers and Urban Outfitters. In addition to the shoes Nylon has also created a nylon wind runner. Can I get a amen?!

Good News! L.A. based label Public Library just launched their highly anticipated online store! Those who happen to be fans of the indie brand are in for a pretty awesome surprise when they venture online to collect the cool, quirky, and often times inspiring tee’s the Public Library brand is known for. Along with showcasing their upcoming collections and actually selling those peices in said collections, shoppers now also have the unique opportunity to customize and create their very own Public Library tee. For about $30 a tshirt, shoppers will be able to choose their favorite style of tee, sillohette, graphic, and color. Be aware that design selections will vary depending on the trends and seasons, so I suggest you get over to Public Library right now and get too it!

President and First Lady Obama help plant a tree on Earth Day

In an effort to encourage more American volunteerism, President Obama signed the 5.7 billion dollar national service bill entitled the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The bill, which was signed Tuesday, triples the size of the AmeriCorps service program over the next 8 years, and expands the ways students can earn money for their education. For those that don’t know, AmeriCorps is a government program which partners with non-profit and faith-based organizations, as well as public agencies to promote and execute volunteer efforts in the US. It was created under the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993 by then President Bill Clinton.

Hello Drama Jewelry.

April 20, 2009

picture-50LA based rock inspired jewelry line Hello Drama is curated by rock band Nylon Pink and is my new favorite line of goodies to obsess over. The line of jewelry created from their inspiration of vibrant boutique themed designs and is delivered with creativity and loads of passion. Hello Drama  has also been featured in elite magazines as well as on celebrities such as Macy Gray, The Veronica’s and Torry from The Donnas. The range of funky jewelry they offer is quite extensive and the price points are within the budget of a normal person (ahem…me). If you like what you see you can find more of their selections in select retailers and online.

Adidas Fall/Winter 2009

Adidas has dropped pictures to preview their Fall/Winter collection, and I have to say they’ve got some great shiz in store for us. Over the last year or so Adidas and has stepped their game up and made it evident why their shoes are classics.

For the upcoming Fall/Winter season the sneakers for Adidas feature a variety of materials with vibrant and subdued colorways. I’m excited to get more information on when these shoes are going to drop, but my guess is sometimes at the beginning of September. We shall see!

Sometimes I forget how fortunate I am to have been born in a country where my rights as a woman have been fought for and upheld through my entire lifetime. Sometimes I take for granted the fact that I’m able to do whatever I want with my body, work where ever I want, have children when and if I please, and the fact that in the eyes of my government my worth is equal to that of a man. But then I read articles about women all over the world that do not have the same rights as I have and I am reminded once again how lucky I am.

Afghani President Hamid Karzai is being accused of trying to win votes in Afghanistan’s presidential election by supporting and pushing a law that the UN says legalizes rape within marriage and apparently bans women from even stepping outside their homes without the permission of their husbands. This said law was signed earlier in March despite it being heavily protested against by human rights activists and Afghan women alike.
